Studies on the Height, Weight, Arm Circumference, Skinfold Thickness, Arm Muscle Circumference, Cross-sectional Muscle Area, Cross-sectional Fat Area of Infants in Daejeon Area
Kim Jong-Im

Abstract
In order to elucidate the growth and nutritional status of infants, the height, weight, arm circumference and cross-sectional muscle area and cross-sectional fat area were surv¡þeyed on 800 normal, health and well-nourished infants aged from 1 month to 36months. Especially arm muscle circumference and cross-sectional muscle and fat area were calculated by Gurney and Jelliffe¢¥ s method. The result obtained were follows;
1. The height and weight of infants surveyed were generally higher than those of 1967 Korean Children Growth Standard.
2. Kaup Indices showed little change at all the age groups, and they were under 2. 0.
3. In proportion to infants¢¥ growth, Rohrer Indices were gradually decreased.
4. The arm circumferences were gradually increased by the age. The average arm circumferences for the boys and girls were 11. 28cm, 11. 18cm at the age of 1 month, and 14. 60cm, 14. 16cm at the age of 31 to 36 months respectively. The correlation coefficient between body weight and arm circumference was r=0.697 and highly significant at all the age groups.
5. The skinfold thickness was highest at the age of 4 month and was gradually decre¡þased after 4 month-old.
6. Arm muscle circumference was found to be increased as the infants age was incre¡þased. Average arm muscle circumferences of boys and girls were 9. 11cm and 8. 77cm at the age of one month, and 12. 22cm and 11. 52cm at 31 to 36 month-old respectively.
7. The cross-sectional muscle area was rapidly increased for the first 4 months period, and then increased slowly.
8. The cross-sectional fat area was repidly increased during the 2nd month period, less changed during 3rd to 10th period, slowly decreased during 11th to 12th month period and then slowly increased after 12 month-old.
